The Site Safety section encompasses a range of different risks affecting not only the contractors on site, but the public as well, especially children. Everyone who operates on a construction site will have legal responsibilities to manage theirs and other people's safety and to ensure that the risk of injury is minimised.
The checklist below identifies some of the hazards most commonly found on construction sites. It is intended to help you decide whether your site is a safe and healthy place to work. The list is not exhaustive:
- Is your site a safe and healthy place to work?
- Are all proper safety signs displayed?
- Does your site operate the "No Hard Hat, No Boots, No Job" type principle?
- Can everyone get to his or her place of work freely and safely?
- Are access routes in good condition, walkways level and free from obstacles?
- Are there guard-rails to stop falls from open edges on scaffolds, mobile elevated work platforms, buildings excavations etc.?
- Are elevated work platforms lowered when not in use?
- Are structures stable, adequately braced and not overloaded?
- Are holes and openings securely guard railed, provided with edge protection or provided with fixed clearly marked covers to ptevent falls?
- Is the site tidy, and are materials stored safely?
