'Permit to work' is a formalised system requiring trained individuals to carry out and complete specific actions to establish a defined task is safe to carry out and can be approved.
The system of checks in the permit document identifies hazards, ensures risks are controlled and makes all persons involved in the job aware of arrangements. The planned procedure is then permitted and completed within a time period.
When the permitted job is finished and the area is made safe, the permit is cancelled and signed-off by the originator.
